The way this works, you can just plug your USB peripherals and your network cord into the Thunderbolt display. Ever so often all three USB ports on the TBD stop working. I unplug the all in one TB display cable from my Mac and then the laptop screen freezes, I have to reboot, usually twice, then magically the display and peripherals work Hi Barry, I (and many others over in the apple discussion boards: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3899882) have been having the same issue. It took a reboot to get it working again.
Not really keen on the idea of leaving the tbd on all day with Caffiene, or having to hard reset my display every couple of days. I have tried restarting multiple times. If the problem still persists, you may need to inquire Apple about this issue, replace the speakers in the display, or use external speakers.
