Interestingly there is another setting in machine.config that controls generation of PDB files and this is specific to ASP.net 2.0.

Breakpoint Not Working In Visual Studio 2010
I've installed the IIS6 compatibility services, the FrontPage extensions, windows authentication, and I have msvsmon x64 running as Administrator on the server. In most cases something done above before this point usually does fix it.

But given that the ASP.NET 2.0 bits are not supposed to change is this likely to get fixed by a .NET service pack in the future? In my web config file compilation debug is set to true. Then when you debug a web application through VS.NET and it launches a window everything will work. I do appreciate all the info you've posted here -- but I have to say this bug that breaks F5 still in April here is about as unacceptable as it gets.

Things like generated serialization code etc, may be generated with the System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute which will prevent breakpoints from being hit. The unfortunate fact is, there is a bug in ASP.NET Integrated mode (the default ASP.NET mode for IIS7) that prevents authentication from taking place correctly for the debug auto-attach feature.
